Summer Internship Program in Washington DC for Slovak Students

In 2017 SABIC is proud to sponsor two Slovak young professionals for the DC Internships program operated by The Fund for American Studies.

With the our mission around commercial relations, investments and support Slovakia´s startup ecosystem between the US and SK , SABIC is looking to sponsor students with interest in business and entrepreneurship and will review applications in two programs: Business and Government and International Affairs and Economics. Through a competitive process, once the scholarships are awarded, we will place interns in SABIC member firms in Washington for relevant and enriching experiences. Internships are about 30 hours a week, in addition to coursework at George Mason University and extra-curricular activities.

All students must meet the criteria set by TFAS in order to be considered for an FOS Scholarship and are also required to meet the program’s English proficiency guidelines. For students demonstrating financial need, scholarships from SABIC will cover most program costs (including housing), but Slovak students will be responsible for travel costs, living expenses, as well as health care through the George Mason University (GMU) student insurance plan.

The application deadline for international students is January 20, 2017 and online applications are taken at www.dcinternships.org In addition, Slovak applicants should email their applications to Dr. Sharon Wolchik swolchik@gmail.com and Dr. Sharon Fisher sharon.fisher@ihs.com which will help accelerate placement.

An active alumni community awaits students returning to Slovakia after their DC Internship.  If you’re interested in speaking with Slovak Alumni who have been through this program, please contact mary@slovakamericanfoundation.org for an introduction.

Amb. (Ret.) Theodore Sedgwick, President of SABIC

“There’s no better way to strengthen the bonds between Slovakia and the U.S. than to make it possible for future Slovak leaders to study and spend time in the US. Thanks to the generous support of the membership of SABIC – Honeywell, AT&T Systems, Eset and VRM – young Slovaks have more opportunities to engage in meaningful study and travel in the United States.”

“Generosity of donors provided me simply with the greatest experience of my life- both professionally and personally. This unique program offered me to live, learn and intern in a city that became my home- it is going to be a lifechanging summer for you, shaping you for the rest of your life during which you will meet life-long friends and experience educational and career enrichment.“

“Being able to live, learn and intern in Washington DC during the summer of 2016 was a life-changing experience. Despite meeting a number of interesting and inspiring people, I could build lifetime friendships. This experience reshaped my ideas, broadened my perspective and gave me a valuable experience. Moreover, Washington DC provided a lot of opportunities to expand one’s network and to share and exchange interesting ideas from several academic disciplines and backgrounds. I am very thankful to be part of TFAS family. Moreover, I learned how important it is to give back to community and help to nourish Young Slovak talents.
